Children and Worship
Kindergarten & 1st Grade Class
Our Kindergarteners and first graders get to know Christ in a worship environment that cultivates the imagination and invites children to experience the wonder and mystery of God’s love. We use the “Children and Worship” curriculum designed by RCA.
Kindergartners and first graders begin in the sanctuary with their families. They are dismissed to class after the Children’s Message. Their teachers will meet them in the Fellowship Hall right outside the sanctuary and escort them to their class upstairs in Room F. Parents must pick up their children after the service in Room F. Please wait in the hall until a teacher opens the door.
What goes on in class?
The children begin in their special worship circle with singing. Next, they listen to a Bible story told with wooden figures. After the story, the children are asked to respond to “I wonder” questions. On the first Sunday of each month, the children share a feast together that is symbolic of communion. After this worship time, the children do an art project related to the story. Finally, they return to the worship circle, the teacher lights the Christ candle and reads the Bible story from the Bible. Their worship time ends with prayer. Often, the parents are invited to join the class for prayer time. As each child is dismissed, the teacher whispers a blessing in his/her ear.
