Our Extended Care Ministry

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in. I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me." [Matthew 25:35]

Our Extended Care Ministry helps bring the HRC family and its activities to those who cannot come to the church. As members of this ministry, we extend a loving hand to others by calling them on the phone, writing them letters, and visiting their homes. We also bring them beautiful flowers from the sanctuary, video/audio tapes of the sermons, and homemade meals from our freezer.

In our congregation, there are at least a dozen people over 90 years old! Our Extended Care Ministry has a lot of fun bringing birthday parties to these people (including a card that the whole congregation signs). Those who have no nearby family especially appreciate our parties.

Our Sunday School kids make cards for the shutins
Every first Sunday of the month, our ministry arranges for an elder to serve communion to those in our extended care family. Our Sunday school children are involved, too: three or four times a year, they create wonderful cards and send happy greetings to our elderly and sick. We also spend some of our time in transit driving people to and from church services, activities, and events. (Occasionally, we fill a need by driving people to other appointments, too.)

On the third Tuesday of the month, a group of us goes to local nursing homes to have sing-alongs with the residents. And lastly, but not least, we have a monthly meeting to plan all these fun activities! So, if any part of this ministry sounds like something you would like to participate in, please join us! New members are always welcomed! Our kick-off meeting will be August 31st at 9:30am in Room A. After that, our Extended Care Ministry will meet at the same time and place on every fourth Sunday of the month. Contact people are Millie Lambeth (227-4032) and Nance Williford (221-1855).
