  • 1683-"Rombout Patent"-Francis Rombout purchase of 85,000 acres from Wappinger Indians, including areas of Beacon, Wappingers Falls, Fishkill, East Fishkill
  • Madame Brett, Rombout daughter, received much of Rombout Patent as an inheritance, and proceeded to sell it off.
  • 1716-churches at Poughkeepsie and Fishkill. 425 people in Dutchess County which included Putnam.
  • 1733 first settlers in Hopewell

  • 1626 Peter Minuet purchased Manhattan for Netherlands for $24.
  • 1664 British ships took over Netherland colonies without resistance

    Isaac Lent's home, now owned by Don & Bev Hanna
  • 1757 Church Society of Hoopwell(sic) met in home of Isaac Lent. Organized by 19 persons from the Fishkill church.
  • first 7 years congregation met in Isaac Lent's barn, no church and no pastor of its own.
  • burying ground was to the east on the creek bank
  • 35 Reformed Protestant Dutch Church congregations
  • early (visiting) pastors (Dominies) were: E.T.Van Hovenburg of Rhinebeck Flats, J. Cusper Rubell of Red Hook, J.C.Fregenmoet of Kinderhook, Cornelius Blauw of NJ, and Lambertus De Ronde of New York
