Ministry Description: World Vision is an international partnership of Christians whose mission is to follow our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in working with the poor and oppressed to promote human transformation, seek justice and bear witness to the good news of the Kingdom of God.. Through emergency relief, education, health care, economic development and promotion of justice, World Vision helps communities help themselves. Working on six continents, World Vision is one of the largest Christian relief and development organizations in the world.Established in 1950 to care for orphans in Asia, World Vision has grown to embrace the larger issues of community development and advocacy for the poor in its mission to help children and their families build sustainable futures. World Vision focuses on children because they are the best indicator of a community's social health. When children are fed, sheltered, schooled, protected, valued, and loved a community thrives.
World Vision also provides disaster relief on a global scale. The yearly number of natural or man-made disasters listed by the UN as tripled in the last 20 years. With offices in 96 countries and local relief capacity being built, World Vision can have relief staff at disaster sites within hours. World Vision also has Global Rapid Response Teams of relief experts who can be on site 24-72 hours after the onset of a disaster.
HRC Support: Financial, generally from the church’ tithe to missions.
Invitation to Serve: “Adopt” your own child. Write to him/her. Receive yearly progress reports and more frequent letters. Pray for you child. Tell you own children that they have a “brother” or “sister” in a far-away land. Send your “adopted” child a birthday gift to let him/her know he is “special”. Support your adopted child with a monthly pledge. Assist your child’s community when given the opportunity to provide something as simple as a well and pump for running water. Let your adopted child know he/she is of value and cared for by God and by you. Know that because of you one child will not go to bed hungry. One child will be educated. One child will have a chance for a brighter future.
