EMERGENCY RELIEF FUND

Ministry Description: The Mission Team always reserves some funds to handle national or international “disasters” that might arise during the year. Recent instances of these funds being needed include: the Darfur crisis in Sudan and the 2004 tsunami.

The Mission Team discusses the most serious need as it arises during the year and then determines which organization(s) is (are) in position to address the crisis best. Because the RCA is quite responsive to these crises, preference is usually given to an RCA organization. At other times we choose to go through another organization with operations already on site such as Samaritan’s Purse or World Vision. Depending upon the severity of the crisis or the numbers of crises that have arisen that fiscal year, the congregation may also be offered the opportunity to donate to any particular crisis.

HRC Support: Sometimes additional congregational offerings are taken. At other times material support has been collected as in the cleaning buckets collected and distributed via the RCA after the 2001 floods. Because crises often elicit responses from ChristCare groups as missional service projects, the Mission Team has set aside some funds to assist ChristCare groups in accomplishing their missional service task.

Invitation to Serve: When special material collections are taken, the Mission Team welcomes additional help to collect and distribute the needed items.
