THE LUNCH BOX
Ministry Description: The Lunch Box serves a complete and nutritious meal six days a week to those in need. Last year the program served a total of 52,611 meals. Operating out of the former Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie, The Lunch Box provides a vital community service under the aegis of Dutchess Outreach. Dedicated staff and volunteers prepare and serve hot lunches to 150-200 of the homeless and economically disadvantaged community of Poughkeepsie. Volunteers work alongside men and women living at the Homeless Shelter as well as people who have been volunteering there for many, many years. Those who have volunteered at The Lunchbox have found it an enlightening and rewarding experience, remarking that "There, but by the grace of God go I".
HRC Support: In addition to members of various ChristCare groups having served at the Lunchbox, the Sunday school periodically makes sandwiches to be distributed there. HRC supports it financially every year via the Missions Team.
Invitation to Serve: Great for a missional service project for ChristCare groups!
Prayer Requests:
Pray for sufficient food and volunteers that no one is turned away hungry
Pray that the guests of The Lunch Box see the love of Jesus in the volunteers
