WALTER HOVING HOME

Ministry Description: The Walter Hoving Home is a non-profit, faith-based rehabilitation center serving women 18 years and older who have been involved in drug addiction, alcoholism, prostitution and other life-controlling problems. Begun in 1967 by John and Elsie Benton, the first home located in Garrison and has since expanded to include a second facility in Pasadena, CA. Both homes have the capacity to provide care for 60 women.

For more than 36 years, John and Elsie Benton have spent many days and nights on the streets of New York and Los Angeles and in the prisons and jails, reaching out to prostitutes and drug addicts. To each desperate young woman, they have extended an invitation to come home to a place of hope and healing. It is an invitation that has led to dramatically changed lives and hope-filled futures for hundreds of women.

The one-year residential program is geared to helping young women rebuild their broken lives in an atmosphere of warmth, trust, support, discipline and love. The Home is nationally recognized for its high cure rate as over 90% of the hundreds of women who have come to the Home as alcoholics, drug addicts, and prostitutes and have completed its spiritually-oriented rehabilitation program, have found new life and hope in Jesus.

HRC Support: In addition to many years of financial support, HRC has benefited on multiple occasions from the testimonies of some of their ladies and the joy exuded by their traveling choir. More recently, Wayne and Lynn Morrison and Jim Collins have assisted with their Sunday evening service.

Invitation to Serve: Other than financial support, the home is often in need of personal items for the ladies it serves. Additionally, you can participate in their yearly Walkathon, Phonathon, Banquet, Fashion Show, Golf Tournament, etc.
